Seed is seeking a seasoned senior editor with extensive experience in commissioning and editing magazine features.

Job responsibilities include:

Develop story ideas suited to Seed's unique way of covering science, scientists, and Seed's "science is culture" mission
Effectively commission and edit features
Cultivate new writers, nurture Seed's relationships with existing writers
Mentor junior-level editors
Capably manage a variety of projects and deliver them on time

The ideal candidate will have:

Five to seven years experience as a magazine features editor
Demonstrated familiarity with a variety of story forms
A stable of writers to call upon
Excellent editing and writing skills
Complete familiarity with magazine-making, including heds, deks, and supporting display copy, magazine style, etc.
An ability to work closely and successfully with writers
An ability to work closely with dedicated colleagues
A strong interest in science as it plays out on the national and global stage
A strong understanding of Seed's unique mission and perspective
Original ideas, enthusiasm, initiative, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment

This is a full-time position in our New York office.
