Responsibilities:

Brainstorm and develop content ideas and strategies for the web site with head of online, art director, video producer, and editorial assistants.
Utilize the full potential of the web, including video, animation, text, games, and more.
Research, conduct interviews, and write copy, including introductions, articles, captions, Q&As, etc.
Produce content, either by executing in-house or by commissioning artists, designers, and journalists, while working within a budget.
Work with head of online, art director, and video producer on content and design challenges, making the site as beautiful, usable, and effective as possible.
Delegate and/or execute production tasks, such as cropping photos or entering HTML.
Organize and lead online editorial meetings.
Supervise current online interns and permanent team members as necessary.

Qualifications:

At least two years experience in science journalism.
A high degree of familiarity and comfort with web publishing, HTML, Mac OS, etc.
Strong background and interest in science. While an area of expertise is a plus, applicant should also have a working knowledge of many fields and a solid grasp of the current big questions in science.
Excellent research and writing skills.
Some management experience; an ability to work collaboratively.
